Senator Fuschillo Delivers Support For Nassau Community College
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently announced that he has secured $85,000 in grant funding for Nassau Community College. The funding will be used to improve the technological and foreign language opportunities offered by the college.
Nassau Community College will utilize $50,000 of the funding secured by Senator Fuschillo to offer more educational opportunity for those studying communications by modernizing the existing television studios. The funding will be used to update the electrical infrastructure of the studio to make the rooms safe, modern and code compliant. This will enable the students to work with state-of-the-art technology used in the communications field.
"Our current editing and production facility has developed and changed with technological advances in the field. To offer our students the best learning environment, we plan to reorganize and modernize our video and sound editing rooms," said Dr. Sean Fanelli, President of Nassau Community College.
The remaining $35,000 will be used by the college to expand the school’s foreign language lab. "The study of foreign languages is an increasingly important undertaking for our students," added Dr. Fanelli. "As the businesses of Nassau County seek additional ways to participate in international commerce and as the demographic composition of the County becomes even more textured, the kind of training that the College’s foreign language labs can offer will become increasingly important."
The school plans to use this money to improve the audio, video and interactive CD technologies currently available for language study. Nassau Community College offers its students ten different language options: Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, German, Arabic, Japanese, Hebrew, Latin and Portuguese.
"This funding will expand the options available to the students of Nassau Community College and will better prepare them for their future," said Senator Fuschillo. "The real mission of any institute of higher learning is to prepare their students for fulfilling careers and these improvements will better enable Nassau Community College to do just that."
