Senator Fuschillo Honors Freeport "long Island Challenge" Champions

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently welcomed students from Freeport High School to honor them for winning the Newsday/Cablevision Long Island Challenge. The Freeport team, composed of Daniel Okobi, Jr., Sarah Mahon, Marilyn Bendel, Yan Mei Luo, and Esther Lopez (alternate), defeated the Suffolk County champions from Walt Whitman High School to win the island-wide competition.

"These kids have earned a great victory, beating several top notch teams along the way and claiming a place among Long Island’s elite class of high school students," said Senator Fuschillo. "Their achievement has brought a great sense of pride to the entire Freeport community, who I am certain are all extremely proud of this incredible feat."

Now in its eighth season, the Long Island Challenge is an educational quiz show that tests students' knowledge of math, science, literature, news and local history. Each contest throughout the tournament was televised on Channel 12.
