Senator Fuschillo Hosts A Series Of Emergency Preparedness Community Meetings
In order to inform residents about how to prepare in the event of an emergency, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently held a series of community meetings which provided helpful tips and information to local residents. The events were held at three sites across Nassau County’s South Shore and featured presentations from the American Red Cross, LIPA, and area emergency personel.
"It is important for residents to be prepared in case an emergency does arise, whether it be a hurricane, a flood, or a massive power outage. Although these types of events are rare, we have seen that they can occur, and these meetins showed people how to prepare for the unexpected," said Senator Fuschillo. "Thanks to the efforts of the Red Cross, LIPA, and the local rescue departments, residents walked away knowing what steps they can take to further protect themselves and their families."
The seminars offered those in attendance numerous safety tips on how to prepare for and recover from an emergency. One of the key points was the Red Cross’ "5 Actions for Emergency Preparedness". This action plan maps out a blueprint for families to follow in case of an emergency, and contains all the precautions individuals should take to ensure the safety of their families and the protection of their belongings. Tips such as knowing where your utility switches are, having your important papers in an easily accessible location, and creating a family communications plan are all part of this vital emergency planning packet.
"I urge anyone who could not attend these meetings to call my office and obtain the materials that were offered," Senator Fuschillo added. "I thank the Massapequa Fire Department, the Bellmore Fire Department and the Freeport Emergency Management Office for sharing their time and their expertise."
