Senator Dale M. Volker Secures $15,000 In State Funds For Wyoming County Industrial Development Agency
Senator Dale M. Volker (R-C-I, Depew) today announced that he has secured $15,000 for the reimbursement to the Wyoming County Industrial Development Agency. These state funds secured by Senator Volker were in response to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s mistake in overcharging oversight costs relating to the voluntary cleanup of the Almor site on South Main Street in Warsaw. Senator Volker secured these state funds as part of the adopted 2005-2006 State Budget.
"The Wyoming County Industrial Development Agency played by the rules, went over and beyond the call to voluntarily clean up this old industrial property, and then was handcuffed with significant oversight charges from the State of New York. This was wrong in my opinion and it sends the wrong message to our municipalities who want to clean up former industrial sites and make them shovel-ready for new economic development initiatives," said Senator Volker. "I commend the leadership in Wyoming County for taking a proactive approach to cleanup these "Brownfields" so that they can be reused to expand the economy in their region, and I am pleased to have secured these additional state funds to assist Wyoming County so as not to place any financial burden onto its taxpayers."

Berwanger, Chairman of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors said, "The Wyoming County Industrial Development Agency has really done an outstanding job in rehabilitating this old dormant and deteriorating industrial property into productive use for our business community. The facts are clear that we fully complied with all of New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s suggestions and requirements. Unfortunately, the State of New York overcharged for their oversight and this was far too much for the Wyoming County Industrial Development Agency to absorb. Working with Senator Volker to address this issue has been a pleasure. He continues to be a strong advocate in Albany in securing state funds for Wyoming County and for protecting our taxpayers."
