May 10, 2005, the New York State Senate confirmed the nomination of Rockville Centre resident Marcia P. Hirsch as Judge of the New York State Court of Claims. Prior to her confirmation, Judge Hirsch was General Counsel to the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal.
“I’m very proud that such a wonderful person and Rockville Centre resident will now be a Judge on the New York State Court of Claims,” said Senator Skelos. “The Court of Claims is one of our most important judicial positions and Marcia’s talent and experience will be a tremendous asset to the people of New York State.”
After graduating, with honors, from Union College in Schenectady, Judge Hirsch earned her Juris Doctor from Syracuse University’s College of Law and was admitted to the New York State Bar in July 1978. Subsequently, Judge Hirsch was an assistant counsel at the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, an Administrative Law Judge for the New York State Department of Social Services and, until joining the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, practiced law in the private sector.
As a New York State Court of Claims Judge, her first assignment will be in Queens County Supreme Court adjudicating criminal matters.
Since 1996, Judge Hirsch has been a member of the Rockville Centre School Board and, among others, involved with the district’s parent-teacher association, booster club and music and performing arts program.
