Senator Farley Announces Federal Aid Available For Flood Disaster Counties

Hugh T. Farley

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C - Schenectady) joins Governor George E. Pataki in announcing residents of Schenectady County who were affected by the April 2nd flooding may be eligible for aid through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Individual and Households Program.

"What a difficult way to start spring," Senator Farley said about the April 2nd to 4th floods. "With the sunny weather we've recently had, we should not forget the intensity of those rainstorms and the damage suffered by many people. The Individual and Households Program helps with temporary home repairs and other major disaster-related expenses. Those individuals and businesses who suffered losses that were not covered by insurance can also apply for low interest loans."

Senator Farley also said local governments in Montgomery County may be eligible to receive 75 percent reimbursement for the costs of emergency protective measures taken during the disaster.

Senator Farley reminds constituents that the American Red Cross Northeastern New York chapter is helping flood victims. For more information or to get help, call the Red Cross at 458-8111. Schenectady County flood victims can call the Federal Emergency Management Agency at (800) 621-3362 to apply for disaster relief.
