Senator Farley Announces On-line Prescription Price List To Be Developed

Hugh T. Farley

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C - Schenectady) is pleased to announce that Gov. George Pataki has signed into law legislation that will require prescription drug prices to be posted online to give consumers easy access to the drug price list. This will foster greater competition among pharmacies and will allow people to electronically comparison shop for prescription drugs on the Internet, thereby helping senior citizens save money.

"I received numerous calls from constituents last spring about this issue," Senator Farley said, "and I am happy to report to them that the Governor signed this bill into law this week."

This legislation will require pharmacies to provide the same list electronically each week to the Department of Health, who will make the prices available on their website. Signs will be posted in pharmacies notifying consumers that the price list is on-line and the address of the website. The website will be searchable by zip code and other factors.
