Senator Farley Announces Montgomery County Soil & Water District To Receive Some $200,000 For Local Farmers' Environmental Projects

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C - Schenectady) joins Governor George E. Pataki in announcing that the Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation District is slated to receive $195,147.50 through the New York State Agricultural Non-point Source Abatement and Control Program to assist local farmers in preserving the environment.

"There is concern for erosion and sediment flow from several farms located near or on the Canajoharie Creek Watershed and the South Chuctanunda Creek Watershed," Senator Farley said. "This funding will enable the local owners to implement systems to stop the erosion and protect the environment, and still allow them to conduct their regular farming business."

Two projects are within the Canajoharie Creek Watershed. One will enable a farmer to install a strip cropping system and waterway. The other venture includes installing a milk house waste disposal system and a silage leachate control system on a local farm. The project concerning the South Chuctanunda Creek Watershed will also include plans for a silage leachage system and a milk house waste system, as well as road improvements.
