Senator Farley Announces Sparky The Fire Dog To Be At Fire Safety Expo Tonight

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C - Schenectady) is proud to announce Sparky the Fire Dog from Montgomery County Emergency Management will be on hand to greet children at the Fire Safety Expo on October 26th at Tribes Hill Fire Department, 280 Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, from 6 to 9 p.m.

"Children admire and respect Sparky and he is able to teach them about fire safety in a fun way," Senator Farley said. "Also, children can receive a Junior Fire Marshal certificate for participating in the expo."

Adults will be able to enter a raffle at Senator Farley's table to win a free smoke detector with batteries. Chimney sweep Caleb Taylor from Top Hat Chimney Sweeps will bring a section of pipe and do a demonstration on clogged pipes and discuss chimney fires. He will also discuss different types of wood and their BTU values. Heating expert Kevin Smitka will be on hand to discuss alternative heating methods and fire safety from an insurer's point of view. EMTs will provide blood pressure screenings. Tribes Hill Fire Department vehicles will be on display and the volunteer fire fighters will also show off the new thermal imaging camera. Information will be available from Montgomery County Public Health and brochures from Fulmont Community Action will be available on HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) and weatherization programs. Since Halloween is also in October, there will be information and tips on Halloween safety. Catholic Charities will be in attendance to discuss Halloween safety and to provide information on their Trunk or Treat festivities, which will be held the following day (October 27th) in Amsterdam.
