Senate Helps With Town Patrol Boat

State Senator James L. Seward was in Old Forge at the water's edge to present a state "check" to the Town of Webb for $15,000 to pay the lion's share of the cost of purchasing and equipping a patrol boat for the police department.

Seward said it is a joint effort of state, county and town to improve marine law enforcement in Town of Webb waterways, which includes the Fulton Chain of lakes, Stillwater Reservoir and Big Moose Lake.

The boat will be operated by town in support of sheriff's department in a cooperative effort, Seward said.

It will be used to patrol Fulton Chain lakes within the Town of Webb and Stillwater Reservoir, including trips into Beaver River to establish a law enforcement presence there. The effort will focus on boating while intoxicated as well as other law enforcement tasks.

The grant of $15,000 through Senator Seward will be supplemented by $2,500 funded by the town with help from Herkimer County STOP D*W*I .

Seward credited STOP D-W-I Coordinator Mike Edwards, Sheriff Chris Farber, County Legislator Pat Russell, Webb Town Board, Supervisor Moore and Webb Police Chief Robert Dibble for their partnership.

"This is a good day for the town as we seek to assist local law enforcement with the important tasks of marine safety in an area as dependent on waterways and boating as the Adirondacks," Seward said.
