Seward Sponsors Breast Cancer Screening, Forum

James L. Seward

Area residents are invited to two local events on the topic of breast cancer sponsored by State Senator James L. Seward, Breast Cancer Options and the Greene County Healthy Women's Partnership. In addition, Seward is offering a special breast cancer screening through a mobile mammography van to those who sign up in advance.

The screening will take place on Monday, November 14, at the Washington Irving Senior Center, 15 Academy Street, Catskill, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Women who want to sign up for an exam should call 1-888-423-3366. The mobile mammography van offers mammograms to women who are experiencing no current problems. All insurances will be billed at the van. Uninsured New York women are entitled to a free mammogram, clinical breast exam and pap test. To check on eligibility, women should call 943-9205, extension 19.

At 6:00 p.m., Seward will host a special public forum on breast cancer, featuring a panel discussion followed by a question and answer session. Topics include top breast cancer myths, risk reduction, treatment options, diet and environmental effects.

"Every year thousands of women are diagnosed with breast cancer," Senator Seward said. "It's important for women to have all of the information they need to identify warning signs and know how to deal with it. I am pleased to join in a partnership with Breast Cancer Options and the Greene County Healthy Women's Partnership to provide the screening and the forum. I hope women will attend."
