State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) is the 2005 recipient of the Firemen's Association of New York State (FASNY) Golden Trumpet Award for his dedication and steadfast support of volunteer fire services in the State. The award was bestowed upon the Senator during a ceremony at the Crowne Plaza in Albany on October 29th.
During his acceptance speech, Senator Bonacic told the group of volunteers from around the State that they are his heroes and that he shares this award with them for their courage and undying, selfless commitment to the health and safety of all New Yorkers.
The award Senator Bonacic received is a bronze plaque depicting the trumpet used by the Chief to shout orders during a fire in bygone years before electronic methods of emergency communication was used. It was presented to the Senator at FASNY's Fall Conference where, volunteer firefighters from around the State gathered to discuss their legislative priorites for the upcoming Session, as well as issues related to providing timely, effective, services to communities throughout the State.
Senator Bonacic concluded, "This is one of the highest honors any public servant could receive; for that I am extremely grateful. I am proud to provide on-going support to the volunteer firefighters who exemplify the best and brightest New York has to offer."
