Bonacic Secures State Funding For Sullivan County Community College

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced that he has $100,000 in State assistance for Sullivan County Community College. The aid will assist the college in its efforts to construct a building to house its Construction Technology and Electrical Trades Program, as well as a greenhouse. Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D-Forestburgh) also committed $100,000 in State funding for the college.

"The State must invest in the education of our children," stated Senator Bonacic. "They are our future. It is important to me to ensure that our region's institutions of higher education are supported by the State in their endeavors to provide students with opportunities to help them succeed. I am pleased to be able to secure this funding for the Community College here in Sullivan. I look forward to seeing it grow."

Currently, the Construction Technology and Electrical Trades program does not have a facility for student training. President Mamie Golladay said the College had created this particular program in response to community need and, as such, is important to sustain but cannot without a proper facility. The total cost of the building will be $1.3 million and will initially be utilized by the 12 students currently enrolled. President Golladay anticipates more students will enroll as a result of the facility's creation.

Senator Bonacic and Assembywoman Gunther announced the availability of the Senate Initiative funds at Sullivan County Community College Foundation's 19th Annual Scholarship Benefit Gala in Ferndale last night. Proceeds raised from the Scholarship Benefit will be utilized to provide scholarship assistance, funding for equipment, enrichment programs, and to enhance selected academic areas.

Assemblywoman Gunther stated, "Sullivan County Community College is a vital part of our community. I am pleased to secure funds for the expansion of an important technology program."
