Senator Bonacic: "take Advantage Of Tax-free Week"

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) is reminding consumers that from August 30th through September 5th, clothing and footwear purchases under $110 will be exempt from the 4 percent State sales tax.

"Now is the time when many families are preparing to send their children back to school and on average spend about $500 in clothing, shoes, and school supplies. By eliminating the sales tax on clothing and footwear purchases, consumers will save money," stated Senator Bonacic.

Senator Bonacic said that in addition to the State sales tax exemption, Ulster, Sullivan, and Delaware Counties have elected to eliminate the county sales tax on the same purchases. Orange County will not be particpating in the tax free week. If you shop in Orange County you will be charged the 4 and 1/8 percent county sales tax.

"I hope everyone takes advantage of this cost savings program," concluded Senator Bonacic.
