Senator Flanagan Appointed To Budget Conference Committees
Albany - With the state legislature’s increased desire to pass the annual state budget on-time, New York State Senator John J. Flanagan (R,C-East Northport) is pleased to announce that he has been appointed to serve on the Joint Budget Conference Committees for Education and General Government/Local Assistance.
"It is a great honor and privilege to represent the Senate on the Education and General Government/Local Assistance Budget Conference Committees," said Senator Flanagan. "Never have we had a greater opportunity to get a budget passed on time than we have this year.
"As a representative of the State Senate on these important Budget Conference Committees, I will be working to ensure that all children will receive a quality education from kindergarten through high-school. Given the difficult fiscal times facing the state and localities it is essential that the State provide school districts with the aid they need to keep property taxes down. Additionally, I will continue to be a proponent for local municipalities and guarantee that they have sufficient funding to operate."
The Education Budget Conference Committee is responsible for determining state spending for New York State public schools. The General Government/Local Assistance decides the state spending for local governments and municipalities.
The Education and General Government are two of the ten Budget Conference Committees negotiating various aspects of the State Budget. The other committees are: Higher Education; Health, Mental Hygiene; Human Services/Labor; Economic Development; Transportation; Public Protection and Environment, Agriculture and Housing.
