Senator Robach Honors Two Area Women With Distinction Award

Senator Joseph E. Robach presented Mary Angerame and Dr. Ruth Scott with the 2005 Senate Woman of Distinction Award on Tuesday as a part of the New York State Senate’s annual "Women of Distinction" ceremony in Albany.

"This award ceremony is a great opportunity for us to celebrate Mary Angerame’s tireless work to improve health care for children, families and those affected by serious and terminal illness and Dr. Scott’s long and distinguished record of community service as an educator, a political leader, a banker and a consultant," Robach said. "It is an honor and a privilege to present the 2005 Senate Woman of Distinction Award to Mary Angerame and Dr. Ruth Scott."

Mary Angerame, a graduate of Plattsburgh State University College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in primary care nursing from the University of Rochester, stands upon an impressive record of achievement. Currently, Mary works as both a nurse practitioner for East High School Based Health Center as well as the Coordinator for the Center for Spirituality, Health and Wellness which is affiliated with the University of Rochester School of Nursing.

Mary has dedicated over two decades to various roles in the nursing field, including: six years as a nurse practitioner for the Community Health Network where she provided primary health care to clients with HIV/AIDS; four years as a consultant to TEAM Project which assisted children and families affected by HIV/AIDS; 10 years as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Rochester’s School of Nursing; and one year as the Quality Improvement Coordinator where she was responsible for the management of quality improvement for 12 clinics which included HIV practices, School Based Health Centers, and primary care, pediatric and OB/GYN practices.

Mary is married to Jeff Folkins and they have 2 daughters - Beth and Amy. They have lived in the Rochester area for over 24 years.

Dr. Ruth Scott is currently the owner of Scott Associates Consulting, Inc., which provides organizational effectiveness consulting for corporations, family firms and public sector organizations. She has been involved in numerous community organizations and has received countless awards, including; Who’s Who Among American Women, Who’s Who Among Black Americans, Albion College’s Distinguished Alumnus Award, Girl Scouts of America Community Service Award, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Citizen of the Year, and YWCA’s Women Builders of Communities and Dreams.

Dr. Scott attended Albion College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts (cum laude). She then went to Kent State University where she attained a Master of Education Degree, and then attended SUNY Brockport where she received a Certificate in Administration. In 1997, Alfred University awarded Dr. Scott the Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) and Albion College awarded her a Doctor of Sociology (Honoris Causa) in 2000.

Dr. Scott served on the Rochester City Council from 1977-89. In 1986, she was elected the Council’s first President. She lives in the 19^th ward of the City of Rochester with her husband William. They have three grown children.
