Golden Joins Senate Passage Of Bill To Create Tax Check Off For World Trade Center Memorial Fund

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) yesterday joined with his colleagues in the New York State Senate and gave final legislative passage to a bill (S.3417), sponsored by Senator Nick Spano, that would provide a tax check-off box on personal income tax and corporate franchise tax returns for gifts to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation.

The World Trade Center Memorial honors those lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The State has established the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation to raise additional funds for the construction and operation of this historic memorial. All four living former Presidents of the United States serve as honorary members of the Foundation's Board of Directors. This bill would provide all New Yorkers an opportunity to contribute to the World Trade Center Memorial and honor our lost heroes.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "As we just came together as a City, as a State and as a Nation to remember the 4th Anniversary of the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001, I am honored to have supported this legislation which will work towards the establishment of a permanent memorial at Ground Zero. This tax check-off box will allow New Yorkers to pledge money to honor our heroes that died in the World Trade Center. In our support of the Memorial Fund, we are doing what we should do, in that we are allowing the legacies of those lost to live forever here in New York and within the history of this country."

Senator Golden continued, "We must never forget the attack of September 11, 2001, and we must never forget the many heroes that were born that day and since. Each individual who perished, and each brave individual who answered the call to help, deserves to be remembered by future generations as great Americans."

The Memorial is scheduled to open on September 11, 2009. This bill was passed by the Assembly and will now be sent to the Governor.
