Golden: Necessary Yield To Pedestrian Sign To Be Installed At Corner Of Local Turning Lane

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) today is announcing that the Department of Transportation has approved his request to install traffic calming signage at the intersection of 14th Avenue at Cropsey Avenue. The installation of a sign stating "Attention Drivers Yield to Pedestrian" will be completed on or before March 25, 2005.

Senator Marty Golden, after meeting with local residents, brought to the attention of the Department of Transportation in October, 2004, the absence of a yield sign at the end of the turning lane at the 14th Avenue and Cropsey Avenue intersection. Numerous Dyker Heights and Bath Beach residents expressed their concern and fear of crossing the street while going to and from Dyker Park as a result of the lack of pedestrian safety measures in place.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "I am pleased to have secured this safety enhancement for the pedestrian traffic which crosses at this intersection in route to Dyker Park. I have witnessed first hand the fears and challenges local residents face when seeking to cross. Without a yield sign, cars do not always slow to allow for a safe crossing which make crossing this street risky. This is important step towards insuring that local residents are not in danger when crossing this busy street.

Golden continued, "As a former New York City Police Officer, I remain committed to making sure that our community remains a safe place for all to live. With these enhancements, both vehicular and pedestrian safety at this intersection will be made safer."
