Senator Golden Announces New Police Command Post For Marine Park

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) is announcing the establishment of a new police command post within Marine Park, as of Monday, April 18, 2005, designed to increase patrol and enhance the public safety of the entire Marine Park community.

Senator Golden, following a recent town hall meeting on public safety in Marine Park, met with Brooklyn South Assistant Chief Joseph Fox, 63rd Precinct Inspector McGinn and 61st Precinct Captain Stella, and school safety officials. As a result of the meeting held late last week, a N.Y.P.D. Command Post, with five Officers assigned and one Sergeant, has been placed by the Marine Park park house, located at Marine Parkway and Fillmore Avenue and at least one Police Officer will be present at all times daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The establishment of this police substation is in response to the growing needs of the community and the increase of activities within Marine Park. At the town hall meeting hosted by Senator Golden, a call for increased park patrol was made by neighboring residents and concerns related to a fight involving Marine Park Junior High School students was an issue of much discussion.

"I commend the New York City Police Department, Brooklyn South Chief Joseph Fox, Inspector McGinn and Captain Stella for their immediate attention and response to the public safety concerns of Marine Park residents. Marine Park is an enormous park which is utilized each and every day by countless residents for sports, for exercise and for recreation. This new command post will bring about a new and better sense of security for all," said Senator Golden.

Senator Golden, a former New York City Police Officer continued, "The creation of a police substation in Marine Park follows in the footsteps of very similar and very successful efforts in both Central Park and Prospect Park. As the summer months are upon us and as the park will become even crowded, these new safety measures have come at the right time."
