Senator Golden Statement On Decision Not To Close Brooklyn's Fort Hamilton Army Base
Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, 22nd District), a member of the New York State Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Military and Veteran Affairs, has issued the following statement after receiving news that the United States Department of Defense has not recommended that the Fort Hamilton Army Base be closed:
"This is not only great news for this community, it is great news for New York City and New York State. We have survived the first round of closings and this decision to keep operational the Fort Hamilton Army Base is a determination that makes perfect sense. Our community and New York City are safer because of this decision."
"I commend Congressman Vito Fossella, the Fort Hamilton Citizens Action Committee led by David Martin and Bill Guarinello, and the entire community for again coming together in the name of our military to support them, their operations and their future. The Fort Hamilton Citizens Action Committee, and this neighborhood, deserve an enormous amount of credit for their efforts caused the closing recommendations of the Department of Defense to not include the Fort Hamilton."
