Senator Nozzolio Announces $1 Million In Budget For Development Of Seneca Army Depot

Michael F. Nozzolio

Albany – New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio today announced that Governor Pataki’s 2005-2006 Executive budget includes $1 million for the Seneca Army Depot. The Governor’s proposed Executive budget included $100,000 for the Army Depot and the funding was increased by $900,000 in the recently released 30-day amendments.

“This funding is another great example of the Governor’s continued commitment to the revitalization of the Seneca Army Depot and our efforts to transform the Army Depot into an economic engine for Seneca County and the Finger Lakes,” said Senator Nozzolio. “Since the Army base closed, we have made great strides to revitalize the Depot and today there are more jobs there then at the height of the Army’s employment. This funding will allow us to continue the development and economic growth of the Seneca Army Depot”

The funding will be used by the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency for infrastructure improvements at the Army Depot.

Senator Nozzolio has been instrumental in securing millions of dollars in the past six years which has helped bring more than 1,200 jobs with an annual payroll of over $30 million to the former Seneca Army Depot. Projects have included construction of Five Points Correctional Facility, the acquisition of the KidsPeace campus by the Hillside Children’s Center, the attraction and expansion of The Advantage Group, and the creation of the New York State Police and Emergency Training Facility.

“It was a pleasure to fight for this necessary funding and I commend Governor Pataki for his continued commitment to the development of the Seneca Army Depot. Working together, we will continue our efforts in utilizing additional acres at the Depot to stimulate new business growth, create new jobs, and attract more visitors to our region,” Senator Nozzolio concluded.
