Senator Nozzolio Announces Sales-tax-free Week
Albany – Citing tax relief as a top priority, State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio today announced that shoppers across his Senate district and all of New York State will benefit from another sales tax-free week that will be held from Monday, January 31 – Sunday, February 6, 2005. Most clothing and footwear items selling for under $110 per article are included in this sales tax-free week.
The sales tax-free week waives the State's 4.25 percent sales tax on clothing and footwear and also allows counties and cities across New York State to exempt their local portion of the sales tax.
"Once again, consumers in New York State can directly benefit from the tax cuts that we have enacted under Governor Pataki's leadership. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this chance to receive this important tax break," said Nozzolio.
Nozzolio noted that just last year, the sales tax free week saved shoppers over $100 million.
For further information on the taxable status of clothing and footwear items, consumers can call the New York State Taxpayer Assistance Bureau toll-free at 1-800-CALL-TAX (1-800-225-5829). Businesses should call 1-800-972-1233.
"The huge savings for New Yorkers and the increase in economic activity in clothing and footwear sales during sales tax-free week is just one more sign of the economic growth and prosperity that has taken place in the great State of New York," concluded Nozzolio.
