Ontario – Calling it a great day for the Town of Ontario and its surrounding communities, New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) today announced that he has secured a $250,000 State grant for a new Community Center. The announcement of the multi-use, multi-generational facility was made at Casey Park, site of the proposed facility, in the Town of Ontario. Today’s funding announcement brings the total state commitment to the Town of Ontario Community Center to $500,000.

“This is a great day for all of the children and families in the Town of Ontario and nearby towns,” Senator Nozzolio said. “I couldn’t be more pleased to be able to secure this funding for the new Town of Ontario Community Center. This facility will serve every resident in town and will be a wonderful place for after-school activities, swimming, sporting clubs and events, meetings and much, much more.”

Phase I of the construction of the Community Center will include a multi-purpose gymnasium, fitness center, teaching/aerobic pool with changing rooms, and two multi-purpose activity rooms. Future plans include the construction of a turf arena located next to the facility.

Joe Molino, Town of Ontario Supervisor said, “This project could not have been completed without the commitment and generous support of Senator Nozzolio. His leadership and vision have been integral to what will become an excellent, multi-use facility for the entire community. The children and families of Ontario will benefit greatly from all of the events and programs that will be offered once the center is completed.”

Bill Riddell, Town of Ontario Parks and Recreation Director said “The Ontario Community Center will be a tremendous asset to the community and I would like to thank Senator Nozzolio for his efforts to secure such a substantial grant to allow this project to move forward.”

Mark Brewer, Town of Ontario Councilman said “On behalf of the Town Board and residents of the Town of Ontario, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Senator Nozzolio for securing this funding for the Community Center. Senator Nozzolio’s personal engagement in this project, whether it be words of encouragement or by attending on-site meetings has been extremely beneficial. The planning for this project has been underway for six years and without the Senator’s assistance it would not have reached this point. When completed, this much needed multi-purpose facility will be enjoyed and utilized by all segments of our community.”

The Community Center will be located in Casey Park in the Town of Ontario and construction is due to be completed by the end of next year. Once completed, the facility is expected to serve over 25,000 residents in the Town of Ontario and surrounding towns in Wayne and Monroe counties.

“Using this center for so many different and unique purposes will help attract visitors to our community who will shop in our local stores and eat in our local restaurants, enhancing our economic development efforts and creating jobs,” Senator Nozzolio concluded.
