Breslin Encourages Residents To Volunteer

Neil D. Breslin

With the holiday season quickly approaching and the aftermath of the hurricanes, many of you may be asking yourselves "how can I help?" Your local food banks and shelters are always looking for a helping hand, either in the form of donations or volunteering your time and services. Senator Breslin is a longtime friend and supporter of both FOCUS Interfaith Food Pantry and the Food Warehouse (Food Pantries of the Capital District). "Any given opportunity, I work wholeheartedly to secure funding that may be available to the local food pantries, but it is impossible to place a dollar value on the worth of community support and volunteers," said Breslin.

Did you know that 1 in 10 people in our country lives in a household that experiences hunger or the risk of hunger? Even more alarming, is the fact that 1/5 of American food ends up in landfills. Because of the scope of hunger, many of us feel this tragedy is too massive for one person’s action to be effective. Such is not the case-each of us can make an impact.
