Senator Morahan Encourages Villages To Apply For Community And Economic Development Grants

Thomas P. Morahan

Senator Morahan announced that approximately $50 million in grant funding is now available to small communities in New York for projects that create jobs, improve public infrastructure and provide better housing for working families. This funding will be administered through the Governor's Office for Small Cities (GOSC) Community and Economic Development Program.

"Villages with a population of less than 50,000 should consider applying for GOSC grants for housing, economic development and public facilities projects that improve the quality of life for New Yorkers," said the Senator.

Eligible communities may use grants for activities such as housing rehabilitation, homeownership assistance, the expansion or improvement of water and sewer systems, the development or expansion of public facilities such as senior citizen centers, and assistance to small businesses through micro enterprise programs.

The complete 2005 application packet is now available online at the GOSC's website, www.nysmallcities.com. Applications must be postmarked no later than April 4, 2005.
