Senator Morahan Sponsors Financial Aid Workshop
Senator Thomas P. Morahansponsored a financial aid workshop at College Night,in the Field House at Rockland Community College (RCC) on October 27, 2005 at 8:00 PM.
Many parents and students find applying and searching for financial aid to be a very daunting and frustrating task. Senator Morahan assisted students and their families by providing informational brochures on financial aid. He also hosted a workshop where Marvin Oppenheim, Director of Financial Aid at RCC, who made a presentation on financial aid and answered questions.
"As an advocate for higher education, and a parent, I can appreciate the needs of the students in New York State who seek to better themselves through a college education," Senator Morahan said. "Fortunately, we in New York State have access to a wide variety of grants, scholarships, and low-interest loans, which help families finance a college education."
Today, three in every four students attending college receive some form of financial assistance.
The following are types of aid offered by New York State:
Ÿ Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
Ÿ New York’s College Savings Program
Ÿ New York State tuition deduction or tax credit
Ÿ Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP)
Ÿ Tuition aid for eligible veterans, their children, and military members
Ÿ Other specialized New York State scholarships
