(Albany, NY) Senator Dale M. Volker (R-I-C, Depew) today announced that he has secured $25,000 for the Buffalo Audubon Society’s Beaver Meadow preserve within the adopted 2005-2006 New York State Budget. This funding will be utilized by the Buffalo Audubon Society to expand its educational programs located at its Beaver Meadow site located in North Java in Wyoming County.

"Beaver Meadow is truly an untapped natural resource that has enormous educational and eco-tourism potential. I have been honored to work with the Buffalo Audubon Society to assist them in making this site accessible to our schools, community organizations and the general public in order for all of us to be good stewards of our environment," said Senator Dale M. Volker. "The staff and volunteers at the Buffalo Audubon Society are some of the most dedicated and committed individuals I have had the pleasure of knowing. I am pleased to have secured $25,000 in state funding so that they can continue in promoting and preserving our God-given natural resources for current and future generations of New Yorkers."

William Hudson, Director of the Buffalo Audubon Society said, "Senator Volker has over the years, firmly supported our mission in promoting education and hands-on conservation for the long-term preservation of natural resources including habitat and wildlife. Additionally, we have worked together to mitigate or prevent immediate environmental threats to the communities served by Buffalo Audubon and to lay the groundwork for long-term preservation of bio-diversity, wildlife habitat, and human well-being."

The $25,000 secured by Senator Dale M. Volker will be used for expanding the educational capacity of the Society’s Beaver Meadow Audubon Center. The expansion will center on the addition of a residential interpretive naturalist for the Beaver Meadow preserve, allowing the Society to execute more educational programs for schools, community organizations and the general public. It will also provide for a constant staff presence at the preserve for visitors and volunteers.

The Buffalo Audubon Society promotes an appreciation of the natural world through education, advocacy, conservation, and preservation. They serve the communities of Western New York State in Erie, Wyoming, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and portions of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties.
