The funding was secured by the Western New York Legislative Delegation as part of the adopted 2005-2006 State Budget.
"The Buffalo Zoo has been a tremendous part of our western New York community for many decades, and it continues to be a key component of our economic and cultural fabric," said Senator Dale M. Volker. "The Western New York Legislative Delegation continues to work in a bipartisan manner to secure state resources for the Buffalo Zoo in order for them to make upgrades to their facilities and internal infrastructure needs. I would like to commend all the members of the Western New York Legislative Delegation for their continued support in helping secure these state financial resources."
Assembly Majority Leader Paul Tokasz said, "The Buffalo Zoo has made significant improvements over the past several years to enhance its facility, expand its programs and improve the profitability of the zoo. This has been a tremendous accomplishment during these trying financial times in Erie County and a credit to the staff of the Buffalo Zoo to use their funds in such a cost-effective manner. The Western New York Legislative Delegation will continue to be a strong advocate in Albany to secure state dollars, ensuring that the Buffalo Zoo remains one of the most outstanding tourist attractions in our region and state."
The entire Western New York Legislative Delegation commended Donna Fernandes, President and CEO of the Buffalo Zoo, for her outstanding commitment to improving the Buffalo Zoo over the past several years under her leadership. Additionally, the Western New York Legislative Delegation would like to congratulate Dr. Fernandes on her new position in California and wish her well in all of her future endeavors.
