Senator Marcellino Announces Grant For Glen Cove Waterfront

Senator Carl L. Marcellino joins Mayor Ralph Suozzi to announce a $340,200 New York State Environmental Restoration Program (ERP) grant to the City of Glen Cove Community Development Agency for the remediation of the former Gladsky Marine property.

Senator Marcellino authored legislation October 2003 to refinance and reform the State’s Superfund and Brownfield programs. "When my brownfields bill was signed into law, I believed that it would encourage redevelopment and stimulate both environmental and economic benefits. I am proud that the legislation is now paying such large dividends right here in the City of Glen Cove," said Senator Marcellino

"The Gladsky property is a crucial part of our waterfront development and we are very thankful for Senator Marcellino's support in obtaining the necessary funding to remediate this site. This is one more step toward a revitalized waterfront," said Mayor Ralph Suozzi

This 0.78-acre industrial site located on Garvies Point Road on the Glen Cove Creek, was once a boat maintenance and repair facility. The remediation of the Gladsky site will include the excavation and disposal of the contaminated soil. Areas above the groundwater table, where residual contamination exceeds State guidelines, will also be excavated and disposed of properly off-site. Upon completion of the remediation, the site will be redeveloped as part of the Glen Cove Creek Waterfront Revitalization Area.
