State Representatives Comment On Dresser-rand Union Vote

New York State is in active negotiations with Dresser Rand, now that the union vote is over, according to Senator Catharine Young and Assemblyman Joseph Giglio.

"I’m very relieved that the outcome was positive, said Senator Cathy Young (R,I,C - Olean). Although the State has been in constant communication with Dresser since this began, company officials were firm in saying they would not negotiate with us until labor issues were ironed out," said Senator Young.

"Our goal now is to sweeten the pot and meet the company’s immediate needs to convince them to stay in Wellsville and keep those 280 plus jobs here," she added

"I’m pleased to learn that the union has ratified the labor agreement," said Assemblyman Joe Giglio (R,C,I - Gowanda). It is gratifying that all parties were able to work together in order to assure the Dresser Rand plant remains here in Wellsville to provide quality jobs for Allegany County."
Both state legislators lauded the union for its vote.

"The union deserved all the credit in the world," said Senator Young. "Their decision was extremely tough, but they stepped up, not only to save their jobs, but to also save the community."

"To lose Dresser would have been a catastrophe for our hard working families, and the local economy. The company is now working with the State, and I sincerely appreciate their willingness to sit down with us," she said.
