Local Seniors Learn How To Reduce Their Prescription Drug Costs During Senator Fuschillo's Community Meeting
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently held an informational community meeting with Assemblyman David McDonough (19th Assembly District) and Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt (17th Assembly District) at the Merrick Library to inform local senior citizens how the New York State EPIC program could help reduce their prescription drug costs. A representative from the EPIC program was on hand to explain how the program works and answer questions from the audience.
"With all the upcoming changes in prescription drug plans and coverage, many seniors are confused about whether or not they qualify for New York State’s EPIC program and if it is beneficial for them to enroll. This meeting was an opportunity for seniors to learn how the program can save them money on their prescription drug costs, how to apply, and to ask questions so that they can decide if it is right for them," stated Senator Fuschillo, a member of the Senate’s Health Committee.
The EPIC program is a New York State sponsored prescription plan that helps eligible senior citizens reduce their drug costs. It is open to New York State residents ages 65 or older who have an annual income of $35,000 or less if single, or $50,000 or less if married. The plan covers almost all prescription medicines, both brand name and generic, as well as insulin, insulin syringes and needles. According to the New York State Department of Health, over 340,000 seniors already belong to the program.
Residents who would like more information about the EPIC program or wish to obtain an application can call the state’s EPIC hotline at 1-800-332-3742 (TTY 1-800-290-9138) or Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-546-4100.
In addition, Senator Fuschillo has created a section on his website to enable seniors to access this information over the internet. The section contains links to additional information posted on the websites of the EPIC program, Medicare and Social Security, as well as phone numbers that seniors can call to receive more information from these agencies.
