Senator Fuschillo Secures State Grant For Merrick-north Merrick Pal’s New Baseball/softball Field

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently joined with officials from the Merrick-North Merrick PAL to view the league’s newly repaired baseball/softbal field at Fayette Elementary School. Senator Fuschillo obtained a $25,000 state grant to help fund the improvement project.

"The Merrick-North Merrick PAL gives hundreds of local children the opportunity to play in an organized league to learn how to play a sport, improve their athletic abilities, and develop their love for the game," said Senator Fuschillo. "By restoring this field, we have given our kids a safe, state of the art place where they can enjoy playing ball."

"On behalf of the families of the approximately 600 hundred children who participate in our baseball/softball program, I’d like to thank Senator Fuschillo for securing funds for these much needed improvements," said Officer Ed Serrao, who is the Police Officer Director for the league. "Our program has more than doubled in size over the last two years, which caused extra wear and tear on a field that was already in need of repair. Thanks to this project, we now have a new field that can better serve the families of our community."

In addition to baseball and softball, Merrick-North Merrick PAL provides other organized sports programs to the children of the community, including soccer, lacrosse, tennis, golf, and judo. Organized by the Nassau County Police Department, it is designed to aid in the development of good citizenship through positive interaction of police officers and children. They strive to ensure that children can enjoy sports in a safe environment that emphasizes good sportsmanship over winning and losing.
