Senator Fuschillo Warns Consumers To Examine Credit Report Following The Holiday Season

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), the Chairman of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee, is urging all consumers to take advantage of the free credit report available from the three major credit bureaus following the busy holiday season.

"With the increase in consumer activity throughout November and December, the holiday season is the perfect opportunity for criminals to obtain your identity. You can protect yourself by making certain that you know what is on your credit report and that you are aware of any discrepancies. This will allow you to spot any mistakes and to report any unlawful use of your information so that your credit is in your control," stated Senator Fuschillo.

Under federal law, the three nationwide credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, are now each required to provide you with a free copy of your credit report once every twelve months. By checking this important record, which is used by creditors, insurers, and other businesses to evaluate applications for credit, insurance, loans, and mortgages, you can view all activity involving your personal financial history.
