Over 2,000 local senior citizens recently visited the Freeport Recreation Center to receive free health services and information as part of Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr.’s (8th Senate District) annual Golden Gathering.

"The Golden Gathering is a special day for seniors that brings together a wide variety of information and health screenings all under one roof, making it easier and more convenient for seniors to receive them," said Senator Fuschillo. "I am happy to see that so many seniors were able to take advantage of these important services."

Over 80 vendors offered information about health and nutrition, consumer protection, public safety, and insurance at this year’s Golden Gathering. Visitors were also able to receive free health services, such as flu shots, blood pressure screenings, chiropractic screenings, and hearing screenings. The Department of Motor Vehicles offered its Mobile Outreach Program, and the Town of Hempstead Town Clerk's Office brought its Mobile Town Hall to offer seniors the chance to obtain or renew a passport.

Free transportation to the event was provided by the Towns of Hempstead, Oyster Bay, and Babylon, as well as MTA-Long Island Bus.

Seniors who would like more information about Senator Fuschillo’s annual Golden Gathering can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-546-4100.
