Hugh T. Farley

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) is teaming up with the Northville Waterfront Park Committee, Sacandaga Valley Arts Network (SVAN), and the Northville Civic Association for a night of Art in the Park and Summer Fun and Safety Fair on Friday, July 7th, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the new Waterfront Park located behind the Main Street businesses in Northville.

This event is being held in conjunction with the new park's official grand opening. Gary Van Slyke, a Sacandaga Valley Arts Network (SVAN) musician, will perform "Songs of Summer" from 6 to 7 p.m. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Actors Company, a local drama organization that funds college scholarships, will perform selections from their upcoming production of "Titanic" at 7:30 p.m.

As part of an outreach effort, Senator Farley said his District Offices typically take part in health fairs or help host festivals. Last fall, Senator Farley teamed up with the Tribes Hill Fire Department and held a Fire Safety Expo and on June 10th of this year, Senator Farley helped the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department host a Home Safety Day on Route 30 in Amsterdam.

"This Summer Fun and Safety Fair is another exciting event that will also educate people on safety issues and on the types of services which are available in their community," Senator Farley explained.

Participants include: ASAPP's Promise, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Fulton and Montgomery Counties, Fulmont Community Action Agency, Fulton County Literacy Volunteers, Fulton County Sheriff's Department, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Smokey the Bear, Northville Fire Department, Northville-Northampton Joint Youth Commission, Northville Public Library, Reality Check, Primerica, and The Holy Cows.

Several local non-profit organizations will also be holding fund-raisers during the event such as the Northville Central School Senior Class of 2007. The Northville Civic Association will be selling popcorn and Pop's Country Hot Dogs will be selling refreshments with some of the proceeds going towards the Civic Association. SVAN will have its fund-raiser quilt on display and Actors Company will be selling tickets for its upcoming shows. Kirianne Weaver will create and sell portraits. Balloon animals and face painting will also be available for children.
