Senator Alesi Announces Local Winners In Statewide Environment Contest
Senator Jim Alesi (R,C - Perinton) today announced that five local students have won statewide recognition for environmental awareness through the state Senate’s 15th annual "I*MA*GREEN*NATION" competition.
"Our local winners competed against hundreds of students from throughout New York State, and their imaginative ideas and displays were judged to be among the best in this year’s contest," said Senator Alesi. "I know that our entire community shares my pride in these young people who have shown a remarkable awareness and concern for the important environmental challenges that we all face to make our state a better, cleaner place."
The statewide competition pitted students from Grades One through Eight against other schools for presentation of ideas and solutions to the problems of solid waste reduction and encouraging recycling. Entries were judged for imagination, subject matter and creativity.
Locally, winners were selected from St. Joseph’s School and Allendale Columbia School. The winning entries were selected from three divisions: Division I - Grades 1 - 3, Division II - Grades 4 - 5, and Division III - Grades 6 - 8. Winning entries were selected in Literature, Arts & Crafts, and Science & Technology. Local winners selected in Senator Alesi’s district included:

A reception and awards ceremony for the winners was held at the state Capitol on Tuesday, May 9. The winning entries, as well as all other participating projects, were on public display.
