Senator Alesi Receives Nyahsa Leadership In Senior Services Award

Senator Jim Alesi (R/C-Perinton) received the 2006 New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYAHSA) Leadership in Senior Services Award, Tuesday, February 13th at their Award Ceremony and Reception in Albany.

The award recognizes Senator Alesi’s commitment in providing high quality health care, housing, and community services to the elderly and people with special needs. Through his legislative efforts he has secured funds and sponsored legislation that have enabled nursing homes and adult-day care facilities to provide the resources needed to serve the adult population in Monroe County and throughout the State.

Senator Alesi’s efforts lead to the passage of legislation requiring fingerprint background checks for nursing home employees. This legislation was in response to nursing home residents being vulnerable to employees with a history of criminal activity. NYAHSA also recognized Senator Alesi for his continual uphill struggle to pass legislation to combat elder abuse.

"NYAHSA and its members thank Senator Alesi for his leadership on the state's criminal background check law and his overall commitment to the senior population of this state," said Carl S. Young, president of the New York Association of Homes & Services for the Aging. "This measure, along with his countless initiatives to provide quality care will safeguard and protect New York's nursing home residents while continuing to ensure a qualified and caring workforce."

Founded in 1961, the New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging is the only statewide organization representing the entire continuum of not-for-profit, mission-driven and public continuing care, including nursing homes, senior housing, adult care facilities, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living providers, and community service providers. NYAHSA's more than 650 members serve an estimated 500,000 New Yorkers of all ages annually.
