Marathon Man Named To State Panel
Michael Joseph Jr. of Divers Crossing Road, Marathon, has been confirmed by the state Senate to serve an additional term on the state Board of Real Property Services, Senator James L. Seward announced today. Seward is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which must consider nominations before they are acted upon by the full senate. The senate confirmed the nomination on Friday in its special session.
Joseph, former Marathon school superintendent, holds degrees from Syracuse University and SUNY Geneseo. He was director of Cornell's Rural Schools Program and has served on the governor's commission on education reform. Joseph has been active in Cortland County with Catholic Charities and the United Way.
"Mike Joseph has been a valuable member of the state Board of Real Property Services," Seward said. "I commend the governor on his nomination and wish Mike well as he continues."
The panel assesses special franchises and sets equalization rates for local governments, among other assessment-related functions. .
The term expires in 2013.
The position carries no compensation.
