Seward Secures $2.4 Mill Tc-3 Aid

The legislative budget agreement includes $2.4 million in additional funding toward Tompkins Cortland Community College’s master plan, Senator James L. Seward announced today.

The funding in the SUNY capital budget will pay for additions to the college’s master plan, including a student center, biology labs and a health center. The money was not included in the governor’s proposed budget.

"Setting aside money for improvements to TC-3 is an investment in the college’s future, its attractiveness to prospective students, its academic standing and the lives of present and future students," Senator Seward said. "As a member of the Senate Higher Education Committee, I am keenly aware of the need for ongoing refurbishment of the facilities on our SUNY community college campuses, and these projects at TC-3 are certainly worthy of funding. I am glad we could secure the money in the state budget."

Seward is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which helps assigns funding in the budget.
Seward has visited the campus numerous times and met with college administration and faculty. He has represented the college since 1987, and previously secured more than $10 million for the college’s athletic facility and classroom expansion plan.

"Thank you so much for your ongoing enthusiasm and support for our master plan and helping us to acquire the funding we will need to make it a truly successful project for our college and our community," TC-3 President Carl E Haynes wrote to Seward.
