Bonacic Bill Aiding Fallsburg Central School District Approved By Senate
State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today that his legislation, Senate bill 7298, was unanimously approved by the Senate. The measure authorizes the Fallsburg Central School District to submit final cost reports on approved construction projects on or before June 30, 2006. The bill is sponsored in the Assembly by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther.
Senator Bonacic said that the Fallsburg Central School District had made an error and did not file appropriate paperwork to the State Department of Education (SED) in a timely manner, and as a result, ten of fourteen building aid payments were discontinued. "My bill gives the district until June 30, 2006 to file the paperwork required for compliance and building aid payments will be made current and continue to be paid to the district as a result."
The school district's annual building aid payment from the State is over $183,000. The total amount of funding the district anticipates from the State is over $1.8 million. "The thought of losing revenue of over $1.8 million, when our schools are already operating on limited resources, is unacceptable," continued Senator Bonacic.
"People make mistakes. We can't allow an error put our school district in financial jeopardy or place any increased burden on our property taxpayers. I was pleased to advance this measure on Fallsburg's behalf," concluded Senator Bonacic.
