Bonacic Secures $10 Million In State Funding For Suny New Paltz

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today that he has secured $10 million in State aid earmarked for a critical building renovation project at SUNY New Paltz. The Old Main Building at SUNY New Paltz that once housed the entire campus will undergo rehabilitation.

"SUNY New Paltz is an important part of our region. I am pleased to have secured this added funding to help this college better serve their students and the community," stated Senator Bonacic.

Senator Bonacic said that according to President Steven Poskanzer, the Old Main Building was constructed in 1908 and once housed the entire college. The four story building is the current home to the School of Education and provides academic and administrative space for the school's many programs. However, the structure's electrical, mechanical, and technological systems are outdated and in dire need of replacement. The building does not have air conditioning, adequate storage, or telephone and internet connections.

"Once again, we are fortunate to be able to thank Senator Bonacic for his stalwart support of SUNY New Paltz," said New Paltz President Steven G. Poskanzer. "This $10 million appropriation will allow us to begin to create a modern facility to support the training of teachers and to house newly-hired faculty. We intend to restore this historic structure at the heart of our campus to its rightful stature as an architectural gem."
