State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mt. Hope), today announced that the State would make $30,000 available for park expansion in the Village of Monticello. The new area will be located near the Villages basketball courts.

"Families deserve attractive and safe community parks and outdoor recreation areas. I was pleased to work with Village officials to identify this need and secure this funding," Senator Bonacic said. "Investing in our communities for recreation improves the quality of life for residents and visitors alike."

"The improvements over the years made to DeHoyos Park and the Village have been tremendous. The community spirit and desire by so many different people to enhance this park are a model of community cooperation," Senator Bonacic said.

In 2001, Senator Bonacic secured an initial $20,000 grant for park improvements, under the State’s Rural Community Revitalization program. Since that time, the park has won prizes from the Sullivan County Renaissance program in 2002 and 2003, as well as a National Park grant in 2003. Senator Bonacic also secured funding for enhancements in 2005 and has secured state grants for main street revitalization projects, as well. "The community’s commitment to making this park an integral part of Monticello is impressive," Senator Bonacic said.

"I will continue to support community projects such as this whenever possible," concluded State Senator John J. Bonacic.
