Bonacic Secures Funds For Sullivan County Firefighters

John J. Bonacic

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today that he has secured $50,000 in Senate funding for five Sullivan County Fire Organizations. Westbrookville Volunteer Fire Company Number 1, Loch Sheldrake, Rock Hill, White Lake, and Summitville will each receive $10,000 to purchase equipment.

"Our volunteer firefighters are the crucial providers in times of crisis. We ought to be doing all we can to provide them with needed equipment and support," Senator Bonacic said.

Since taking office, Senator Bonacic has been a strong supporter of our volunteer fire organizations and members. Last year, the Senator secured funding for each fire company in Sullivan County and the previous year secured $1 million for the County's fire training center.

Captain Ralph Tunno of the Westbrookville Volunteer Fire Company said that the funding secured was used to purchase rescue tools. He stated, "We cannot thank Senator Bonacic enough for his hard work and caring for our community. The Senator's dedication to the safety of our volunteer firefighters and the community is invaluable."

Captain Tunno continued, "In 2005, we were able to purchase a thermal imaging camera, due to the grant the Senator secured for all of the fire departments in Sullivan County. On behalf of the officers and firefighters, I thank Senator Bonacic for his time and assistance."

Senator Bonacic concluded, "I was pleased to provide this support for the selfless men and women who make up our fire departments. They are our neighbors and deserve State support so that they do not have to tap into our already overburdened property taxpayers to meet their needs."
