Bonacic: Upac And Woodstock Artists Association To Receive Capital Improvement Funds

Two of Ulster County’s leading arts groups will each receive $50,000 under the State’s Community Capital Assistance Program. The funding was secured by Senator Bonacic as part of the 2006/2007 State budget. The Ulster Performing Arts Center (UPAC) and the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum will receive the funding.

UPAC is the county’s premier performance art facility and is located in Kingston. UPAC plans to continue their on-going renovations with the funding. UPAC is in the process of becoming a part of the Bardavon family. The Bardavon, run by Ulster County resident Chris Silva, is currently managing UPAC. The UPAC funding was requested by long-time UPAC Board Member Tony Marmo.

Tony Marmo, former UPAC Board President, said, "UPAC is vital to ensuring that Ulster County residents can enjoy top quality performing artists close to home. The Senator has been a long-time supporter and his commitment has been instrumental in revitalizing the Ulster Performing Arts Center facility."

Current UPAC Board President, Paul Casciaro stated, "Senator Bonacic has been wonderful to the theatre in the past and I look forward to working with him in the future."

The UPAC season is well underway. This year’s performers include Whoopi Goldberg on October 27 and country superstar Travis Tritt on November 4.

The Woodstock Artists Association & Museum, which received the funding with the endorsement of Town Supervisor Jeremy Wilber, is planning to make significant capital renovations. The Association offers a gallery, performance space, and year round educational programs.

The Association’s Administrative Director, Leslie Rolnick said, "We appreciate this funding secured by Senator Bonacic. It comes at a very appropriate time because many necessary exterior and interior renovations would have otherwise been delayed. These renovations will make our galleries more appealing which will in turn attract more public participation and visitors."
