Fallsburg To Make Sidewalk Improvements In Hamlets

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mt. Hope), along with Fallsburg Town Supervisor Steve Levine, today said the Town will make $150,000 worth of sidewalk improvements in three hamlets. The funding was secured by Senator Bonacic as part of the State's 2006-2007 Transportation Budget.

Work will be done in Hurleyville, South Fallsburg, and Mountaindale.

In Mountaindale, the sidewalks will be constructed on Main Street and Post Hill drive. In Hurleyville, they will be constructed from Waldorf Avenue to Brophy Road. In South Fallsburg they will be constructed from Route 42, down Railroad Avenue past Town Hall.

"Making our downtowns more attractive is key to pedestrian safety and our local business community. From park improvements, to our new senior center and equipment for our fire departments, I have worked successfully with Senator Bonacic to help make Fallsburg a better place to live and work. The new sidewalks this funding will construct are another positive step for the Town," Supervisor Levine said.

Senator Bonacic said, "Improved sidewalks means improved downtowns. More people will want to walk in the hamlet areas if there are safe sidewalks. That can help business and improve the quality of life for area residents and visitors."

The sidewalk funding projects were requested by various groups associated with the Sullivan Renaissance program, founded by the Gerry family. The local chapters of Sullivan Renaissance who are participating in revitalizing Fallsburg include the Mountaindale Community Development Project and Hurleyville Sullivan First. The Hurleyville sidewalk project was also identified as a community goal for Hurleyville under a series of community visioning workshops sponsored by the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development.
