Local Sullivan County Officials Join Senator Bonacic In Call For Public Information Sessions On Power Line

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today that several Sullivan County and Town officials have joined him in calling upon New York Regional Interconnect (NYRI) to hold public informational sessions in Sullivan County about that company's proposed energy transmission project.

NYRI has proposed to build a major transmission line that is slated to run through several counties of the 42nd Senate District including Delaware, Sullivan, and Orange Counties. To date, NYRI has planned meetings in Utica, Binghamton, Otisville, Deposit and Norwich, however, none of which are scheduled to take place in Sullivan where their proposed transmission line is slated to run through.

"Local Sullivan County officials have gone on record in support of my request and I greatly appreciate them coming together and working with me on this matter," stated Senator Bonacic. "It would be absurd for anyone to claim that the public input component of this process is being followed if Sullivan County is left out."

Among those officials joining Senator Bonacic are: Chairman of the Sullivan County Legislature, Christopher Cunningham, Town of Cochecton Supervisor Salvatore Indelicato, Town of Delaware Supervisor James Scheutzow, Francis DeMayo, Supervisor for the Town of Liberty, and Harold Russell, Town of Bethel Supervisor.

"I have been in contact with NYRI officials and they have tentatively agreed to hold a public meeting later this month in the Town of Delaware. However, I still have yet to have a commitment from NYRI and I will continue to work with our local officials to ensure the people of Sullivan County are both directly informed about this project and their concerns heard," continued Senator Bonacic.

"A project this vast will undoubtedly have an impact on our region. The residents have a right to know exactly what that impact will be," concluded Senator Bonacic.
