John J. Bonacic

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today that nine Ulster County Arts groups will receive State funding totaling $110,000. The groups receiving the grants are: Center for Creative Education, Century House Historical Society in Rosendale, Friends of Historic Rochester, Saugerties Historical Society, Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy, Shadowland Theatre, Ulster County Historical Society, the Woodstock Guild, and the Women's Studio Workshop.

"Supporting the preservation of our history and culture, as well as the promotion of the arts of our region, is in everyone's best interest. It is crucial to the economic vitality of our communities," Senator Bonacic said.

Senator Bonacic said that the State grants range from $10,000 to $30,000 and will be used for building improvements by most of the groups, except the Woodstock Guild which plans to purchase signs and to create and distribute brochures.

According to Brendan Burke, Artistic Director of the Shadowland Theatre said that the funding secured by Senator Bonacic will be used to winterize the Theatre with new windows, doors, repairing holes and to beautify the Theatre's overall appearance.

"Our region boasts a long tradition of promoting the arts and preserving our heritage and culture that we can all be proud of. I always have and will continue to support the local groups that do such an excellent job helping to make our area a colorful place to live and visit," concluded Senator Bonacic.
