Sachem Students Experience A Day In The Life Of Senator Flanagan

John J. Flanagan

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently hosted four students from Sachem High School as part of the school's Job Shadow Day. The students, Kyle Hill and Malika Moro from Sachem North and Jared Kirschenbaum and Mike McKnight from Sachem East, are members of the AP Government program and were chosen to represent their respective classes.

The four seniors joined Senator Flanagan as he went through a typical day of attending meetings and events. Starting with a tour of the Cleary School for the Deaf and concluding with a Smithtown Chamber of Commerce luncheon, the students experienced Senator Flanagan's schedule firsthand.
Senator Flanagan expressed his appreciation for the Sachem Business Alliance and the Rotary Club of the Ronkonkomas for their efforts in coordinating the program.

As part of the day, Senator Flanagan hosted the four students as guests on his weekly Legislative Update show. The show, which will air on Cable Access Channel 18 in Brookhaven, Huntington and Smithtown this coming week, features a discussion of the Job Shadow program and the student's views on state issues.

"This was a great opportunity to listen to students who may one day be in the very same position I am now. This program is a great opportunity for the interaction of ideas and is a terrific idea to allow these students to experience different careers," stated Senator Flanagan. "I applaud the Sachem School District for coordinating this program and I thank the students for allowing me to play a role in their day."
