Senator Flanagan Joins Smart Growth Organization To Plan Future Of Middle Country
Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently joined Selden and Centereach residents, business owners, community leaders and civic organizations to announce that he had secured a $50,000 grant for the Middle Country Coalition for Smart Growth and Sustainable Long Island.
The grant will help offset the cost of a three-month long community planning process designed to address the revitalization of the Selden and Centereach communities, with emphasis along Middle Country Road (Route 25).
The goal of the community planning process is to empower the local community to constructively address and identify solutions to quality of life issues along the Route 25 corridor including traffic safety, walkability, land use, and open space. The community will also coordinate efforts regarding economic development, housing options for young people and the Route 25 improvement project by the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT).
Sustainable Long Island Executive Director Sarah Lansdale, a planner by trade, is excited about being involved in a community based planning process to address quality of life issue for Middle Country residents.
"We are grateful to be part of this important process to maintain what’s great in Selden and Centereach, and enhance what needs improvement. True sustainable development can only achieved when all community stakeholders, civics, schools, businesses, clergy and government have a role at the decision making table," stated Ms. Lansdale.
The funding secured by Senator Flanagan will be utilized along with grants from other elected officials to help the Middle Country Coalition for Smart Growth and Sustainable Long Island achieve their goals. If you would like more information regarding, residents canCLICK HEREor call516-873-0230.
