Senator Flanagan Secures Funding For Smithtown Senior Van

John J. Flanagan

Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently joined with Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio and Councilman Edward R. Wehrheim at the Eugene Cannataro Senior Center to unveil a van that will be used by the Smithtown Residential Repair Program. Senator Flanagan secured over $16,000 in funding for the purchase of the van.

The program provides minor household assistance for senior citizens 60 years of age and above. The important service is funded by the Town of Smithtown and is designed to offer help around the house for Smithtown seniors.

Repairs include repairing of leaky faucets, windows, hand rails, grab bars and other small repairs. The service can also be utilized for weatherization and gutter cleaning. Any work is performed free of charge but residents must cover the cost of materials used.

Donations are accepted and will be utilized to expand the program, which is operated through the Town of Smithtown Senior Citizens Department. For more information about the Smithtown Residential Repair Program, please call 631-360-7616 or click here.

"We must always remember those in our community who could use a little extra help every now and than. This is a great service for the senior residents of our community and is so vitally needed to make their lives easier. I applaud Supervisor Vecchio and all the town employees who provide such a great help to those who could use it," said Senator Flanagan.
